The Green Accountants

The Green Accountants is run by a small team with big climate ambitions. Our vision focuses on inspiring and enabling our clients to go greener. From the way we run our business day to day, to the way we work and help our clients, we aim to ensure sustainability is at the heart of all we do.
We have made a number of changes over the years, to demonstrate our commitment to all stakeholders, customers and businesses we work with, to bettering the world of business and the climate crisis.

Following the success of our accounting advice and services, which set out to be the helping hand to lift our clients out of the sea of hard-to-understand financial jargon and let them get back to doing whatever it is they do best, while we do the same, we realised that the ultimate challenge facing businesses today, is climate change.

Six months ahead of COVID-19, we set a 50% motor carbon reduction target. We successfully smashed this target by reducing our carbon miles by 87%.

Though we initially found that clients and even our team were reluctant to video call, since the pandemic began, online meetings have become the new normal. Following this, the new normal is expanding and we now think that having sustainability at the heart of every company is not only essential for the climate, but also essential for your business.

So, alongside doing your accounts smoothly, efficiently, and to the highest standard you can hope for, we are working to do more for you and your business.

From planning your first sustainability steps or helping you to be proactive in the face of legislation, to helping make the kind of investments which bring huge carbon savings, we are there every step of the way and you can be proud to say that your accountants,are The Green Accountants.

What We Are Doing?

We have a good understanding of environmental legislation. We fully comply with all areas and will remain aware of our duties

Climate Positive workforce

We partner with Play It Green to offer a Climate Postive Workforce. Meaning we invest in natural offsetting prgrames to snure both business and perosnal emisisons are offset. This collaboration has massive benefits beyond accounting for carbon emissions as we work to reduce them, as the the project increases social value in the sites and aprt of our investment also goes towards incredible charity Sea Shepherd to ensure we have a broad range of benefit.

Office

The building is highly insulated. The windows have heat saving solar film which helps retain heat if the air outside is cooler than the office, and reflects sunshine away from the office on hot days.

We refurbish and purchase recycled equipment where possible. All of our desks are purchased second hand avoiding landfill and manufacture of new desks.

Transport

Most of our work is based at home. All employees travel by bus, or train or use a car only when necessary.

Meetings are held online or at clients’ premises.

Electricity and web hosting

We monitor and minimise the amount of electricity used in the office space and during home working.

Paper and printing

We try to run as near to paperless as possible. Some forms and reports do still require original signature creating an unavoidable use of paper. We purchase paper and envelopes made from 100% recycled post consumer waste.

Waste and recycling

All paper waste is shredded and then composted along with our tea bag mountain. All plastic and cardboard are recycled.

Water usage

We drink tap water and monitor water usage.

Clients and customers

We provide our services to any business. We encourage consideration of the environment but do not allow this to distract from our main service of accountancy, business and taxation advice. Those clients that are interested in environmental issues benefit from our knowledge of environmental conservation.

Participation in environmental discussions

We comment on environmental policies affecting small businesses. We attend local climate change network meetings and various environmental seminars, open days and exhibitions.
